2014 Bahrain Test (2) - Day 2
The third and final pre-season test of the 2014 season continued on Friday, with Sergio Perez setting the pace once again.
It was a heavily disrupted session with even the Mercedes-powered runners suffering reliability issues. It was a more promising day for Red Bull and Marussia, but McLaren and Lotus lost crucial track time.

Teams returned to the Bahrain International Circuit on Thursday for the third and final pre-season test of the 2014 season.
The four-day event is the team's last chance to prepare their cars and new V6 Turbo power-units before the first round of this year's championship in Melbourne, Australia, next month

de Silvestro: "My goal has always been Formula 1"
Sauber's new affiliated driver Simona de Silvestro says her goal has always been to race in Formula 1.
The 25-year-old has competed in the IndyCar series for the last four years, scoring one podium and 13 top 10 finishes.

Smedley follows Massa to Williams
Rob Smedley will be reunited with Felipe Massa this season after making the move from Ferrari to Williams.
He joined the Scuderia at the end of 2003 and originally worked on its test team, before being promoted to Massa's race engineer in 2006.

Expanded role for Wolff at Williams in 2014
Susie Wolff will remain as the Williams F1 Team's development driver for the 2014 season.
However, it is an expanded role that will see her take part in first practice sessions at two F1 rounds this year.

The second winter test of the 2014 Formula 1 season has come to a close, following a heavily disrupted fourth day of on-track action at the Bahrain International Circuit.
There will now be a four-day break before the 11 teams return to the 3.63-mile track for the final pre-season test.

Pre-season preparations for the up-coming F1 season continued at the Bahrain International Circuit on Friday, with day three of the second winter test.
Like the previous two days, fortunes were mixed with reliability woes costing several teams track time. Lewis Hamilton set the pace as the second half of testing got underway.

2014 Bahrain Test (1) - Day 2
The chequered flag flew at the Bahrain International Circuit on Thursday, signalling the mid-way point of winter testing ahead of the 2014 Formula 1 season.
It was a far more productive day for all 11 teams in attendance, despite there being four red flag periods, with 671 laps being completed overall.

Lotus officially confirms extended Renault partnership
The Lotus F1 Team has officially confirmed that Renault will remain as its power-unit supplier for "2014 and beyond".
The news comes as little surprise and was merely a formality; coming one day after the Enstone-based outfit's new E22 took to the Bahrain International Circuit with Renault power.

2014 Bahrain Test (1) - Day 1
The F1 paddock reassembled at the Bahrain International Circuit, as the second winter test of the 2014 season kicked off.
The Lotus E22 made its public debut when the track eventually opened, following a 30 minute delay due to a problem with the track marshals.

Lotus debuts new E22 in Bahrain
Finally, this season's F1 grid is now complete after Lotus became the 11th and final team to debut its 2014 challenger.
The team opted to skip the opening four-day test at the Jerez circuit, deciding instead to complete more development and preparation work on the new E22 at its Enstone factory.

Newey blames packaging problems and lack of time for Jerez issues
Adrian Newey, Red Bull Racing's chief technical officer, has admitted that packaging problems and a lack of time contributed to the team's problems at the first winter test.
The new RB10 managed just 21 laps over the four-day event, which was held at the 2.75-mile Jerez circuit.

Inaugural Formula E grid starts to take shape
For a change, this blog won’t be on the topic of Formula 1. However, I’m not straying too far from the sport, this time sharing some thoughts on the inaugural Formula E season.
The grid for the up-coming first campaign, which will take place between September 2014 and June 2015, is starting to take shape with the first two drivers being announced.

Domenicali warns F1 against "scaremongering"
Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali has urged F1 to give the sport's new 2014 regulations a chance before criticising them.
He also commented on the Maranello-based outfit's decision to re-hire Kimi Raikkonen to partner Fernando Alonso, saying the Finn is "more mature" now.

Formula 1 teams and the FIA are set to meet during the second pre-season test in Bahrain to discuss making changes to the current qualifying rules.

Webber: Ricciardo will "give Seb a hard time"
Former Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber says his replacement Daniel Ricciardo will give reigning champion Sebastian Vettel a hard time in qualifying in 2014.
The Aussie announced his departure from F1 at last year's British Grand Prix, with Ricciardo being confirmed at Red Bull in September.

10 new F1 machines took to the Jerez circuit in Spain recently for the first pre-season test of the 2014 season.
With one down, we now look ahead to the final two four-day events in Bahrain, where the new Lotus E22 will make its first public appearance and the cars will - hopefully - complete some performance running.

Wolff "cautiously satisfied" with Mercedes progress
Mercedes executive director (business) Toto Wolff says he is "cautiously satisfied" with the progress made by the team so far in 2014.
He also played down suggestions that the Brackley-based outfit is the favourite for this year's world championship after completing the most mileage during the opening four-day test at Jerez.

The return of Kamui Kobayashi
22 drivers will line up on the 2014 Australian Grand Prix grid. Three of them will be rookies, seven will be debuting for new teams and one will be making his return to the sport.
Kamui Kobayashi’s future in Formula 1 looked uncertain when he was dropped by Sauber at the end of 2013. However, he has officially made his return to the sport after joining Caterham.

McLaren's 2014 rookie Kevin Magnussen still can't believe he will make his Formula 1 debut in just over one month's time.
He is determined to justify the faith that the Woking-based outfit has put in him, after the team decided to drop Sergio Perez in favour of the Danish youngster.

Sauber reveal plans for second winter test
Sauber will bring an "extensive" aerodynamic update to the second winter F1 test in Bahrain, which starts on February 19th, along with further improvements to the car's brake-by-wire system.
Team principal Monisha Kaltenborn shared her views on last week's opening pre-season test in Jerez, as well as revealing plans for the not-too-distant future.

Brawn confirms F1 retirement
Following months of speculation, former Ferrari technical director and Mercedes team principal Ross Brawn has officially announced his retirement from F1.
The Englishman confirmed that his time working in the sport has come to an end at a fishing event in Aberdeenshire on Saturday.

Stats and facts from the Jerez test
The first winter test of the 2014 season came to an end on Friday. Results varied for the 10 teams in attendance, with some gaining plenty of mileage and others struggling to even emerge from the pits.
It was certainly intriguing, although we can't read into it too much - but I'll save my thoughts for another blog post. Here, I take a look at the combined times, stats and facts from the four-day event.
