Romain Grosjean has been announced as the 2nd Lotus driver, meaning its an all new line up for 2012. It also leaves ex-drivers Bruno Senna and Vitaly Petrov with limited options.
The French driver took the 2011 GP2 title and also had 7 Grand Prix's under his belt for the old Renault team, but only managed a best finish of 13th. Unlucky right?
After his F1 career did not take off the first time, a year or 2 of growing in GP2 has seen Grosjean improve and be more consistent. He said "I am thrilled to be one of the team's race drivers in 2012," He also added "There's a big grin on my face at the prospect of getting behind the wheel of next year's car, and I feel very privileged to be given this opportunity."
He also commented on his team mate, Kimi Raikkonen, stating "To be racing alongside a former world champion and someone who is hungry and returning to Formula One will be a great experience, and I'm sure will help raise my level of performance too.
Now in my own opinion, Grosjean has to prove himself to me in 2012. In 2009 he had an awful stretch of poor races and that put him down a few notches on my expectations. Hopefully he, like he said, has "grown" over the years. Petrov, slightly sad as he had a better year in 2012 and his contract has not officially ended, i do not know where he will go now. Senna, I agree with some people's comments that the money he brought in was good for the team but he showed some flashes of speed, and i hope we see the Senna name back in an F1 car racing soon.

Hey! good to announce the facts on your blog, but we're waiting also for your opinion!
Not sure about what you think, but in my opinon (and as I'm French) Romain deserves that race seat. Petrov was clearly not a future worlkd champion and had 2 years to show us how limited he was. Regarding Senna, sorry for the fans, but he is no more than a name generating sponsorship. Renault take a good opportunity to evaluate Romain and he will be easy to remove should Robert come back sooner than expected. Thus remember that he remained on the top spot since 3 years in GP2, GP2 Asia but also in GT1 and Andros trophy.
I wish Romain a good 1rst year in F1 with a Lotus hopefully becoming at least a podium contender.
Go France!
