The Red Bulls bring it home. Vettel and Webber live in Milton Keynes, By Alex Goldschmidt
Unfortunately, at the age of 17 school work and revision are the main priorities for me, so I was excited when Alex, a regular fan and guest blogger on here, offered to write an article about Red Bull's "home run" in Milton Keynes, which I could not attend. 60,000 people met to see 2 time world champion Sebastian Vettel and his team mate Mark Webber race around a purpose built track.
Not only did the F1 drivers deliver their promise of donuts and excitement, David Coulthard also drove a Nascar and there was a motorbike stunt display too.
Alex seemed to have a great, but cold, time and he offered to write an article for me on it, from his (a fans) perspective, over to my good friend Alex to explain.

On Saturday the 10th of December, on the busiest shopping weekend of the year, where people were rushing about. panicking about whether or not they will be able to get Christmas presents for their loved ones, I had a completely different reason for going to Milton Keynes. Yes, ladies and gents, it was the promise of going to the Red Bull Home Run, seeing two Red Bull Formula One cars going up and down Midsummer Bouelvard, as well as seeing DC chauffeuring a lucky competition winner in a NASCAR Toyota Camry, which has a short block V8 engine. It made the F1 cars, in my opinion, tame in comparison, when you talk about noisy exhausts. My right ear starting ringing, but it was well worth it, but captured some footage of it being fired up, and the noise from that beast of an engine and the smell of the fuel was just heavenly. All we needed now was the smell of burning rubber.
Well Mark, Sebastian and DC were both happy to oblige, with my driver of the day being the young German champion, being more of an exhibitionist in comparison to his Australian team mate, as his doughnuts were smoke filled and incredibly noisy, There was so much smoke that even Seb himself couldn't really see a thing. It was great to see them all, as well as seeing both Adrian Newey and Christian Horner there too, with Jake Humphrey being master of ceremonies. Even Chris Pfeiffer, motorbike stuntman, wowed the crowd with his fantastic skills, doing multiple wheelies, and even finishing his final run with a front flip over the handlebars. Over 60,000 people were there as well, and it was just a great atmosphere for all concerned. It was a great event, and also briefly spoke to Nikki Wilson, who is the head of Wings For Life UK, which is part of the parent group that is currently helping to find a cure for spinal cord injuries, and is doing some great work.
But it was truly a great event, and some of us were going to be involved in a tweetup at the paddock, but by that time, myself, @duskyblogf1, @Thrinne1, @andrewdobbuk, and a few others had braved the cold for too long, especially as I'd set off at 8am from Manningtree, when it was just above freezing. I was trying my best at doing a Twitter feed for the event, but it sort of went wrong, as the battery had gone by 1.30pm on my Galaxy S 2, meaning I had to use up my back up phone, an iPhone 3GS, which would only send texts and make phone calls. After a few tries, I finally sorted out the problem, so eventually went on Twitter after nearly an hour of sorting it out. But after myself and @Thrinne1 had braved the cold for too long, and ventured inside - thank goodness for Starbucks for wi-fi and a lovely grande hot chocolate with caramel flavouring - YUM!. And at about 4.30 that afternoon, with a 20 minute walk to the car, and then a three hour drive home, I was truly shattered, but it was a fantastic day, having met @Thrinne1 for the first time, and as you can see, I have to give her some credit, as she took some fantastic pictures, some of which are accompanying this article. Until next year, Milton Keynes!
And on closing, it looks like @Thrinne1 and myself had found EJ's shirts for next year, maybe if I get a chance I'll have to buy him the flowery one, that'll cause a stir!
Oh - also note to self - sort out a spare battery or battery power pack next time!
Thanks for that great insight Alex, wish i could of gone!
