The opening winter test of the F1 2015 season continued on Tuesday at the Circuito de Jerez.
Felipe Nasr topped the session for Sauber, just beating Kimi Raikkonen by two tenths of a second.
Overnight rain meant track conditions were damp and slippery as the cars headed out on track to start day three of the Jerez test.
Nico Rosberg, who returned to the cockpit of the Mercedes W06 Hybrid, was the first out on track.
The majority of the field started running on Tuesday on the full wet Pirelli tyre, before switching to intermediates as conditions improved.
Towards the end of the morning, drivers started to venture out on dry tyres and lap times improved considerably. Raikkonen - driving the SF15-T for the first time after taking over from Sebastian Vettel - was fastest but he slipped to second place by the end of the day.
A short run on the soft tyre moved Nasr to the top of the timesheets. His 1:21.545 couldn't be bettered and the Brazilian managed 109 laps in total.
It was a productive day for Sauber, but the Swiss outfit lost some track time when Nasr beached his car in the gravel at turn nine and brought out the red flag.
Raikkonen was second after managing 94 laps, with Rosberg in third. Mercedes dominated the lap count once again, with Rosberg falling six short of his Sunday tally of 157 laps. This was despite causing a red flag mid-way through the day after an engine cut.
Felipe Massa sampled the Williams FW37 for the first time and finished fourth, completing 71 laps and finishing seven tenths off Nasr's best attempt. Pastor Maldonado was back behind the wheel of the Lotus E23 and ended the day fifth.
The Enstone-based outfit made a late start due to a telemetry problem, and Maldonado caused the final red flag of the day after stopping with a reliability issue at the end of the session. Carlos Sainz Jr was sixth for Toro Rosso and completed 137 laps.
An engine change for Daniel Ricciardo cost Red Bull Racing most of the morning, but the Australian increased his lap tally to 48 by the end of the session.
McLaren enjoyed its most encouraging and positive day yet. Fernando Alonso completed 32 laps at the wheel of the Honda-powered MP4-29.
However, a problem detected by the Spaniard on an out-lap mid-way through the session cut short McLaren's running. He ended the day at the bottom of the timesheets with a 1:35.553, having missed out on the fully dry track conditions.
