It was a mixed session, with some teams enjoying trouble-free runs and others suffering  reliability problems.

After a few set-backs and delays, the Lotus E23 made its testing debut on Monday with Pastor Maldonado behind the wheel. The car was only flown over to Spain on Sunday, arriving at the Circuito de Jerez after day one of testing concluded.

Vettel set the pace once again, completing 88 laps in the Ferrari SF15-T. His fastest time - a 1m20.984 - was set during a series of medium tyre runs in the morning, and a rain shower late in the day meant his position remained safe.

The four-time world champion's time testing at Jerez has now came to an end, with his team-mate Kimi Raikkonen taking over driving duties for Ferrari on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Sauber C34 set the second fastest time once again, with Felipe Nasr putting in a 1:21.867 on the soft tyre. He managed 89 laps in total after another productive day for the Swiss outfit.

Valtteri Bottas was back behind the wheel of the Williams FW37. He also set his best time on the yellow-marked soft compound, finishing 1.3 seconds down on Vettel. The Finn completed 61 laps, 11 less than his tally from Sunday, and now hands the car over to Felipe Massa for the remainder of the Jerez test.

Lewis Hamilton dropped to fourth. Despite managing more laps on day two than any other driver with 91, a water leak forced him to sit out the final three hours of the session.

Max Verstappen was fifth fastest on his first day testing the STR10. It was a largely trouble-free day for the Dutch rookie, lapping the track 73 times.

Lotus said the first significant running of the E23 wouldn't take place until Tuesday, but Maldonado emerged from the garage mid-way through the morning and eventually completed 41 laps.

He finished sixth on the timesheets, but caused the only red flag of the day after a drivetrain problem in the afternoon.

It was another troubled day for McLaren, with Jenson Button managing just six laps during his first day driving the MP4-30. His only timed lap was 33 seconds off the pace.

Red Bull Racing's running was limited after a minor off for Daniil Kvyat in the morning damaged the team's only front wing. With additional parts being flown over to Spain, he was forced to complete a number of installation laps at the wheel of the RB11 without a front wing, bringing his tally up to 18. He failed to post a time.
