The Formula 1 teams remained at the Silverstone circuit in Britain for the third in-season test of the year.
In total, there
will be four tests this season. The first two-day event took place after
round three of the 2014 season in Bahrain. The second was held at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya after round five in Spain.
Each team had to devote one of the available sessions to tyre testing with Pirelli. In Spain Sauber, Toro Rosso, Force India and McLaren all worked the Italian supplier.
At the historic Silverstone track, Marussia and Ferrari worked with Pirelli on Tuesday before Lotus - trialling the concept 18-inch tyres - and Red Bull took over on Wednesday.
Conditions were mild but dry for the opening day of running, with Felipe Massa topping the timesheets for Williams with a 1m35.242. The Brazilian, who crashed out of Sunday's race, completed a total of 42 laps.
The Grove-based outfit used the added track time to complete system checks, as well as to trial new parts for the future and for the 2015 car. Valtteri Bottas took over the FW36 on day two and was sixth quickest with a 1m37.193.
The Finn, who scored his second consecutive podium on the weekend, managed 40 laps in total. Second on Tuesday was the Red Bull RB10 of Daniel Ricciardo. He finished just six hundredths down on Massa's top time and felt it was a productive day after completing 70 laps.
Sebastian Vettel took over driving duties on Wednesday, finishing ninth on the timesheets. The four-time champion managed to complete Pirelli's full programme despite a delay mid-way through the session due to a power-unit change.
Nico Rosberg was third fastest for Mercedes on the opening day of the Silverstone test, with a best time of 1m35.573. The team focused on aero testing, brake cooling evaluations and engine system checks as well as set-up work.
The German, who currently leads the drivers' championship, was pleased after managing 90 laps in total. Lewis Hamilton was back in the W05 on the second and final day of the test, finishing fifth and completing 47 tours of the circuit. He was delayed slightly by an early spin at Stowe.
Adrian Sutil was fourth for Sauber on Tuesday, with his fastest time being one tenth slower than Rosberg's best effort. After the Swiss outfit's tough start to 2014, the focus was on aerodynamic and set-up work.
He managed 74 valuable laps during the session, before handing the C33 over to reserve driver Giedo van der Garde for Wednesday's running. The Dutch driver also set the fourth fastest time and completed 84 laps in total, although he brought the session to an early end after a crash at Copse.
Jules Bianchi drove in both sessions but for different teams. He was at the wheel of the Marussia MR03, completing work for Pirelli, on the opening day of the test, completing the top five with a 1m36.148. He managed the most laps of anyone, 104, before switching to the Ferrari F14 T on the second day.
Max Chilton took over from Bianchi for the final session and was seventh fastest. He completed 77 laps and concluded what was a successful test for Marussia. After making his F1 debut at the post-Spanish Grand Prix test, Stoffel Vandoorne returned to the driving seat of the McLaren MP4-29 at Silverstone.
He managed to lap the track 71 times on Tuesday and set the sixth fastest time, before handing the car over to Kevin Magnussen. The Dane, who finished seventh in Sunday's British Grand Prix, was third fastest on Wednesday and completed 91 laps in total.
Force India's Sergio Perez set the seventh best time on day one, before the team's third driver Daniel Juncadella took over on day two. He managed 52 laps (27 more than Perez completed) and was eighth on the timesheets.
Toro Rosso suffered a difficult day on Tuesday. With Jean-Eric Vergne at the wheel of the STR9, the Frenchman managed just 28 tours of Silverstone after a technical problem cost him track time in the afternoon session.
He was eight fastest, with Daniil Kvyat setting the second best time on Wednesday. He had a more productive day and completed 56 laps. Pastor Maldonado was ninth fastest on day one for Lotus. The Venezuelan managed 97 laps in the E22, before Charles Pic took over driving duties on day two.
The Enstone-based outfit's third driver had a split programme working with Pirelli, trialling the concept 18-inch tyres in the morning before moving to the current 13-inch rubber in the afternoon session. He was 10th fastest and managed 38 laps.
Pedro de la Rosa was at the wheel of the Ferrari F14 T on Tuesday and - like Marussia - completed tyre development work with Pirelli. He managed 49 laps and was 10th fastest, before handing the car over to Bianchi for Wednesday's running.
He topped the session with a 1m35.262, just under three tenths faster than Kvyat, and managed 89 laps. The Frenchman replaced Kimi Raikkonen, who is resting after his huge first-lap British Grand Prix crash.
Will Stevens completed the timesheets for Caterham on day one with a best time of 1m40.627. The Brit then handed the car over to Julian Leal, who was at the wheel of the CT05 on the second day.
The GP2 driver was scheduled to run in the morning, but an electrical issue meant he managed just one lap. The team opted to keep him in the car for the afternoon session, meaning Rio Haryanto missed out on driving the car, and the Colombian added 50 laps to his tally.
