Pirelli has officially unveiled its 18-inch Formula 1 concept tyres, after previously releasing rendered images and a video.
The low-profile rubber was revealed in the Silverstone pit lane just after the start of the second day of the third in-season test.
The Lotus team will trial the tyres with reserve driver Charles Pic at the wheel of the Renault-powered E22. The idea is one that Pirelli has long wished to see introduced, as it would lead to greater technology transfer between the tyres of Formula 1 and road cars.
The mandatory tyre rim size in F1 is currently 13 inches, but Pirelli wants to show that the lower profile rubber can produce the same levels of performance and reliability.
