Nico Hulkenberg has dismissed rumours that he was informed by Ferrari that he would not be racing for them in 2014 by text message, and that his relationship with the team is still good.
Hulkenberg was said to have been in negotiations with the team for two months, before the Scuderia chose Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen.
Speaking in the FIA driver press conference about his relationship with the team, Hulkenberg said: "I think the relationship is as good and as positive as before. I think there has maybe been some understanding and that story has been blown up by the media. I read that too but no, I don't feel that."
When asked in response whether he was informed by text message, he simply said: "No."
The Sauber driver - who was one of the stars of the Italian Grand Prix weekend - spoke earlier in the press conference about the rejection from Ferrari, saying: "I don't know. I guess so. There was a chance there. There's no point now to think about that too much. That's history now. I have to look forward and move on."
He also commented on the recent stories linking him to a drive at Lotus. The German said that signing with Lotus was not a priority: "It's not a priority. The priority is to find a good deal and a good car, a competitive car, and a good package. Nothing is finalised. Nothing has been decided at this point. Trying to sort out all the options and then to come up with a good decision for the future."
Discussing his fifth place finish in Monza two weeks earlier, the former Williams and Force India said it was a big boost for the team after a difficult season: "It was a fantastic weekend for us, a great effort by the team. I'm really happy for everybody there, for the hard work and that finally we could reward them a little bit, and for sure that's given us a boost and some momentum for the final seven races. Monza, after a very challenging and disappointing year, has been very happy and good for us."
Sauber currently sit eighth in the constructor's standings with 17 points, 24 points behind Toro Rosso and 16 ahead of Williams.
