Jenson Button's future at McLaren for 2014 was always certain, but all we needed was confirmation. The Brit has given us just that during an interview at the Marina Bay Street Circuit paddock in Singapore.
The 33-year-old confirmed to Sky Sports F1 that his contract was sorted. Meanwhile team-mate Sergio Perez also looks to be staying at the Woking based squad after commenting on his future at the team during the FIA driver press conference.
Button told Sky Sports News on Wednesday that there was "no issue" between both parties. However, he went even further on that claim but telling Rachel Brookes, from Sky Sports F1, on Thursday: "It's done, I'll be here next year."
However, looking longer term to 2015 - when Honda makes its return to F1 with McLaren - the Brit was coy to confirm if his contract extension extended to that date, saying "I can't say."
The 2009 world champion is thought to be keen to remain at McLaren when Honda returns to the sport, having developed a strong relationship with them during his time at BAR between 2003 and 2008, with Honda eventually buying out the team for 2006.
Meanwhile Sergio Perez confirmed in the FIA driver press conference that his contract with McLaren for 2014 was almost done. He said: "Yeah, it's pretty much everything done, I think, But the right thing to do is to ask Martin about that but everything is done."
Asked whether there had been stumbling blocks along the way, he said: "Yeah, we've been having some discussions about the contract. The contract is done but we are just finalising the final dots. Obviously I cannot give many details about them but everything is pretty much done."
However, both drivers have yet to be officially announced at McLaren next year with managing director Jonathan Neale telling reporters on Wednesday that an announcement could be expected "pretty soon."
