2016 British Grand Prix In Pictures

Silverstone has been producing exciting, action-packed Formula 1 racing since 1950 and this year's British Grand Prix certainly didn't disappoint.

Lewis Hamilton stormed to victory, while a radio message penalty dropped Nico Rosberg behind Max Verstappen to third. Here's how the race weekend played out in images.

Friday

Hamilton's run of success in practice continued on Saturday morning, with the Brit topping the times again.

It was a disrupted session after the red flags emerged for a heavy crash for Marcus Ericsson in the Sauber at the exit of Stowe.

There was confusion over whether Jenson Button had progressed from Q1 after track limit penalties but he was eliminated alongside Jolyon Palmer, Rio Haryanto, Pascal Wehrlein, Felipe Nasr and Ericsson.

Sergio Perez was the first to drop out in Q2, joining Felipe Massa, Romain Grosjean, Esteban Gutierrez, Kvyat and Kevin Magnussen.

Hamilton snatched pole from Rosberg and Verstappen, with Daniel Ricciardo, Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel (who had a gearbox penalty) next up.

Sunday

Conditions remained dry until a heavy shower drenched the circuit with around 20 minutes to go.

The race ended up starting behind the safety car, which stayed out for five laps before retreating back to the pits.

Hamilton led the field away, with Rosberg struggling and falling into the clutches of Verstappen. The two would have a feisty battle throughout the British GP.

An early off for Wehrlein brought out the safety car again and prompted a flurry of pitstops for intermediates, while it was just one of many mistakes we witnessed at Turn 1.

We saw some great racing up and down the field in tricky conditions as the track dried out and drivers switched from wets to inters, and then inters to slicks.

Rosberg finished second but a late gearbox issue caused Mercedes to break the radio rules and he was demoted to third.

Verstappen enjoyed another strong drive to a podium finish, this time crossing the line third, but later moving up to second.

Mark Webber was the driver interviewer on the podium, quizzing the top three. The reception of the drivers was mixed, with Rosberg picking up a few 'boos' from the crowd.

Hamilton was clearly delighted with the result and even went to celebrate the result with his fans after the race.
