Channel 4 confirms TV team for 2016 F1 season

Channel 4 has officially confirmed its broadcast team for the 2016 F1 season, with several big names contributing to its coverage of the sport.

The channel took over from the BBC as F1’s free-to-air home in the United Kingdom and will show 10 races live in 2016, with highlights for the other 11 rounds.

The team will be led by presenter Steve Jones, who has appeared on Channel 4 numerous times. He was a long-time T4 presenter and has experience presenting live events like X Factor USA and Let’s Dance for Comic Relief.

David Coulthard will join him in a presenting role, as well as joining Ben Edwards in the commentary box. Both move over from the BBC and Coulthard was the first person confirmed. Edwards retains his role of lead commentator.

A number of well-known motorsport stars have joined in expert analyst roles. Ex-F1 test driver Susie Wolff, F1 race winner Mark Webber, former team owner Eddie Jordan and four-time world champion Alain Prost will be pundits at selected races.

Lee McKenzie moves over from the BBC as pit lane reporter, while former F1 driver Karun Chandhok joins as Channel 4’s technical expert. Bruno Senna will complete several special features for the channel, while the legendary broadcaster Murray Walker will interview some of the biggest names in F1.

It’s a big team for Channel 4 but the variety of experts will provide fans with a mix of opinions, as well as getting insights from those who have driven in the sport more recently.

Many have moved over from the BBC, which can only be a good thing for the coverage on Channel 4, and it is great to see Walker returning to complete some special interviews. Prost joining for selected events is also a big boost for the channel.

What do you think of the team? Let me know on Twitter and Facebook.
