The reigning GP2 champion joined Lotus as its third and reserve driver in January. He has made several outings for the Enstone-based outfit so far this season.

He first sampled the Lotus E23 Hybrid on the second day of the first Barcelona pre-season test. He has so far completed three FP1 sessions in China, Bahrain and Spain, and was last in the car at the post-Spanish GP test.

Palmer has now been confirmed for first practice outings in Austria, Britain, Hungary, Belgium and Italy. He will also drive on one day of the post-race test at the Red Bull Ring.

The British driver will replace Romain Grosjean at Lotus in the FP1 sessions.

"I'm really pleased to be driving in FP1 for the rest of the European season," Palmer said on the news.

"I've been happy with my performances so far and the car is improving all the time so, after watching on at the last two events, it will be great to be driving again."
