The Swiss racer competed for Toro Rosso in F1 between 2009 and 2011, before the Italian outfit went for an all-new driver line-up consisting of Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne for the following season.

It will be Buemi's fifth season as Red Bull's third driver. He previously held the role before his F1 debut in 2008 and returned in 2012 after being dropped by Toro Rosso.

He currently competes in the FIA World Endurance Championship for Toyota, taking the 2014 title alongside Anthony Davidson, and races in the all-electric Formula E series for e.dams-Renault, winning the last round in Uruguay.

"I’m very pleased to take on another season as reserve driver at Infiniti Red Bull Racing," he said.

"It is like being part of the family now and I have a good working and personal relationship with everyone at the team.

"I’m looking forward to helping with the development of the RB11 in any way I can. It should be an exciting season and I’m delighted that I will be a part of it."
Commenting on the retention of Sébastien as Reserve Driver, Team Principal Christian Horner said:

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner added: "We are delighted that Sébastien will once again act as our reserve driver.

"He’s been closely associated with the team for some years now, we value his skills very highly and we have a great working relationship with him. His experience has proved invaluable over the years and it is great to have another world champion at the team."
