Sauber confirm Russian deal is "progressing well"

I previously posted that German media were reporting that Sauber's new investment from Russia was being thrown into doubt; however the Swiss team has now released a statement rubbishing those claims.

Sauber has rubbished "false reports and rumours" surrounding the deal that has helped save them from financial ruin. The team confirmed that progress was continuing and that the investment is starting to trickle through.

They slammed false reports from the media raising suspicion over the involvement of the NIAT (National Institute of Aviation and Technology). However they confirmed that the NIAT had never been involved in helping finance the team.

Sauber also revealed that controversial young driver Sergey Sirotkin will be joining the team in the near future.

The statement read: "We are astounded at the heedlessness with which some media are prepared to spread false reports and rumours.

"A financial involvement on the part of the NIAT was never mooted. The plan envisaged a purely technical partnership.

"The collaboration with Russian partners, as announced by us, is progressing well. The contract with driver Sergey Sirotkin is in place. Preparations for his involvement in the team, as likewise announced, will start next week following the end of the customary holiday period in the sector.

"Beyond this, initial payments to the team have already been made, as per contract."

With Sauber now confirming that all is well within the team financially and with the new investment, it closes numerous rumours that the Russian deal was in jeopardy.

If Sirotkin is promoted to a race drive in 2014, he will become the youngest driver ever to drive a Formula 1 car. He is currently racing in the Formula Renault 3.5 series.
