Toro Rosso has announced that they will switch to Renault engines for the 2014 season.
The Italian team are currently powered by Ferrari engines, a deal which started in 2007. For next season they will switch to the French firm as the sport switches to 1.6 litre Turbo power plants.
In a pre-Monaco Grand Prix press conference, Renault chairman and CEO Carlos Ghosn also revealed that Red Bull Racing's contract has been renewed.
Ghosn said in a press conference prior to the Monaco Grand Prix "I am pleased to announce the strengthening of the partnership existing between Renault and the Red Bull group with the renewal of the agreement with Infiniti Red Bull Racing on one side and the extension of this agreement in terms of powering the cars to the Toro Rosso team,"
Speaking on the announcement, Renault Sport F1 President Jean-Michel Jalinier said "We carefully considered what is best for all parties before concluding the agreement. Toro Rosso is a well-run, established team, with strong personnel and facilities giving the team the potential to be a regular points contender."
He added that the move was "logical" due to their relationship with Infiniti Red Bull Racing, before adding "Renault remains involved in F1 to win and demonstrate the excellence of its products. To achieve our aims we need to have teams functioning at the highest level, which is why we are delighted to sign with Toro Rosso."
Off track, the move will enable Renault to "further promote the association with the Red Bull brand to our customers world-wide."
Scuderia Toro Rosso Team Principal Franz Tost also commented on the deal, saying "We are very pleased to have reached an agreement to use Renault power units from the 2014 season onwards, when the new regulations will present interesting challenges."
He revealed the huge importance in getting the deal done early, so preparations for next season can kick start. "It is particularly important that we have managed to finalise our plans early so that we can be as well prepared as possible for next year."
He also thanked Ferrari for the part they played in powering the team for the past seven seasons, saying "They have provided us with an extremely effective and reliable engine and an excellent service."
Bernie Ecclestone also commented on Toro Rosso and Renault's agreement, commenting: "I'm please to see this deal come together. Renault's contribution to the sport and continued support of multiple teams is important to keep the diversity of the field in the coming years."
The news comes as engine supplying moves to the fore in Formula 1 news, with Honda's recent announcement that they will return to the sport and rumours of potential changes for Williams and Lotus.
