Perez denies reports of apology given to Button

Sergio Perez has confirmed that he has not apologised to Jenson Button for their aggressive on track battle in Bahrain.

The two McLaren drivers made contact on numerous occasions during their 20 lap battle at the Bahrain International Circuit but Perez eventually managed to get through and finish in sixth place.
Button was critical on the Mexican's driving, radioing the team asking him to "calm down" and saying his style was too aggressive when battling together.

It could have proved far worse for Button after Perez ran into the back of him on the exit to turn four, fortunately the Brit did not suffer a puncture and managed to continue on route to 10th place.

Talking to ESPN, Perez confirmed that he has not apologised to Button but instead has said sorry to the team.

"We had the chance to talk, which was very good for me, the team and for Jenson. It was said in various publications that I apologised to Jenson, but it wasn't like that."

He added "I didn't apologise to him because I didn't think it was necessary. We owed an apology to the team and that's what we talked about.

"We apologised to the team because we risked a lot and we were both very aggressive, but no, at no moment did I apologise and my relationship with Jenson is still okay."

The Mexican had a lot to prove going into the Bahrain Grand Prix weekend after suffering huge amounts of criticism for his earlier performances. He put in a gutsy and impressive race in Bahrain to finish sixth, his best result for the team so far.

Now he heads to Spain for the sports return for Europe with his hopes riding on McLaren's planned upgrades.
