Former Toro Rosso driver Jaime Alguersuari has shared his frustration at missing out on a 2013 drive in Formula 1.
The Spanish racer has retained his position as Pirelli Test Driver, meaning he still gets to drive F1 machinery. However he was promised a drive at a potentially "point scoring", midfield, team.
The latest report suggests that Pirelli purchased one of the 2011 HRT F1 Chassis's. Currently the team test with a 2010 Renault, replacing the 2009 Toyota used previous to that.
Alguersuari showed promise in his two and a half years with Toro Rosso, but was dropped ahead of the 2012 season. The Italian squad went for a more youthful line up, Ricciardo and Vergne, leaving Jaime without a drive.
However he has revealed that serious talks took place between a midfield team, where he was offered a seat. The promise apparently made by the team was broken. He said in a statement released by his management "I never imagined that after Red Bull's incomprehensible decision not to count on me in 2012, having done my best sporting season in F1 (in 2011), I would have to fight so much outside the track before finally assuming that in 2013 I will not be in F1,"
"I assure everyone that I have been convinced for most of the 2012 F1 season that my seat was secured in a team that usually scores. So they did tell me and I believed it to be true.
"Due to this conviction I passed up other opportunities in other championships. Those who committed themselves with me have given me reasons that I must accept but that I do not share."
He later added the statement "F1 has become an auction."
He was a candidate for a BMW DTM Drive but that was taken by fellow former F1 racer Timo Glock.
Despite the lack of a 2013 seat, Alguersuari has kept himself in the sport thanks to the test drive with Pirelli. It gives him valuable and vital development on the manufacturers F1 tyre compounds, a huge asset in the current unknown.
When asked if his career in F1 was pretty much over, he said " Despite everything, I strongly don't think so,"
"So I will continue to be active in Formula 1 (with Pirelli), and complete more kilometers than any third driver in this discipline.
"I know how old I am, I know my track record and I'm convinced that I deserve a winning car in F1. And I will keep fighting for it."
The final seat to be filled is at Force India, alongside Paul Di Resta. Rumours did suggest that Alguersuari was in with a shot at the seat, but his remarks have somewhat put out that fire.
