Nico Hulkenberg looks set to move from Force India to Sauber for 2013.
Hulkenberg finished the Korean Grand Prix in 6th place, and has impressed recently. The German raced for Williams in 2010, before joining Force India as their reserve driver. He got his chance in 2012, moving up to a race seat and has shown some impressive pace.
Sauber have been looking for a driver to replace McLaren bound Sergio Perez, and there could even be a second vacancy if the team drop Kamui Kobayashi. GP2 racer Esteban Gutierrez looks set to take that spot, being fast and heavily sponsored.
Hulkenberg had been rumoured to replace Felipe Massa at Ferrari, but Sauber are set to confirm him as their driver for 2013 very soon. Insiders say he has already signed a deal to move to the Swiss squad.
Team Principal Monisha Kaltenborn said that their driver line up would be revealed "before the end of the season”, and with Kamui Kobayashi having a disastrous race in Korea it seems the decision has been brought forwards. However she downplayed the possibility of Gutierrez being in the car, telling the BBC "Absolutely not".
Whether Kobayashi retains his seat is unknown, but the move by Hulkenberg frees up his space at Force India. Rumours suggest Ex-Toro Rosso drivers Jaime Alguersuari and Sebastian Buemi could be in with a shot, as could Sutil and Kovalainen. The team are said to be keen on bringing back Adrian Sutil. Jules Bianchi, the teams reserve driver, also has a good chance.
Hulkenberg scored his highest ever points haul of 12 points at the Belgian GP after finishing the race in 4th. Since then, he has consistently challenged for the points and completed a stunning move on both Romain Grosjean and Lewis Hamilton at the Korean GP, passing them both around the outside.
