Kimi Raikkonen left the Formula One Circus after the 2009 season, after 157 races and 18 victories. His statistics show his real talent, 62 podiums and 37 fastest laps in one of the most closely contested era's in the sport. But he decided to leave, after a poor 2009 in Ferrari's terms.
The reason for him leaving the sport was simple, there were not enough spaces in the high budget teams that would pay a salary he was worth, after breaking records in 2008 for the highest paid person in Motorsport, $51 million per year.
Kimi then turned his attentions to Rallying and a brief stint in NASCAR but he failed to unlock his potential like he had done in F1.
It has now officially been reported, after numerous stories in previous years, that Kimi and Williams are in negotiations for a drive in 2012, as they attempt to find someone who can turn their misfortunes around.
After a difficult 2011, with the team so far (Up to the Indian Grand Prix) only scoring 5 points between their 2 drivers. After losing Sam Michael to Mclaren and dropping down the championship table the team is desperate to get more money into the team and push to become what they used to be.
Now Williams Shareholder Toto Wolff have confirmed that the team are in negotiations about a contract for 2012. Wolff said "we are negotiating seriously" while Team chairman Adam Parr said at the last Grand Prix "Kimi would be a good fit" for the team.
So who will Kimi replace if he does return with Williams in 2012, F1 veteran Barrichello or Rookie Maldonado? The team have also said that Ferrari reserve driver Jules Bianchi and wanna be F1 driver Valtteri Bottas are also in consideration, but may be negotiating for test driver or Friday practice roles.
Should Kimi return to F1, who would he replace at Williams? Rate your reaction to the story below or comment with your view.
