Schumacher, Retire or Race

There has been a large amount of speculation surrounding Michael Schumacher's Formula One career in recent months. Some people are saying he should retire, and is simply not at his best, while others say he is enjoying being back in the car, and he doesn't want to stop.

But what is the right decision? Should Schumacher Retire or Race?

Many of today's young racing drivers grew up with 'Schumacher' as a household name, and questions are being raised whether his career, spanning from the 1991 Belgian Grand Prix to present day, is under threat. With Rosberg consistently out racing him in the majority of their head to head battles throughout 2010 and so far in 2011, people are starting to think there is only a place for him in the history books.

Fresh faced and young in 1991 Schumacher impressed from the off, before winning his first championship in 1994. Many have called his tactics 'Dirty' and 'Sly' but these words have been what made him famous. A total of 91 career wins, 1,473 points, 68 pole positions, 76 fastest laps and 7 world championships to his name he certainly is a record breaking, statistic topping driver. But after his retirement in 2006 he tried other racing such as motorbikes. After that he soon became bored and was obviously pining to be back in an F1 car.Worldwide headlines in the sport pages in December 2009 revealed Schumacher would be returning to F1, this time racing for the new re-vamped version of 2009 champions Brawn Gp, Mercedes Gp. He failed to impress during 2010 and was regularly out qualified and out raced by his fellow German Nico Rosberg. Schumacher finished 9th in the standings with 72 points.

2011 has not been going well either, a number of unlikely errors caused his to lose his front wing more often than score a top 10 finish and yet he is still behind Nico in the points.

What is going on? should he retire? Why is he carrying on?

Those are all questions going around at the moment, but reports reveal Schumacher is staying put and ready for another season. With Mercedes promising to be fighting up the top of the field next year, Schumacher is in no mood to give in to his seat. Rumours illustrated a possible move for impressive young Scot Paul Di Resta but with Schumacher seemingly staying put, that chance is unlikely. He also told media journalist:  "I'll certainly be racing next year, that is definite. We will have to see how things develop and how much energy and fun is still there."

So seems we will be hearing alot more from the iconic Schumacher in the coming years, but will he ever stop?Don't forget to leave a comment with your thoughts, as well as rate a reactions to the article.
