The day I stumbled across Top Gear filming in London

I knew Top Gear had filmed in central London a few days earlier, but I didn’t expect to stumble across Matt LeBlanc, Ken Block and the Top Gear crew during a stroll around the city a few weeks ago.
I was showing a friend around the sights and had just walked onto The Mall, the long stretch of road leading to Buckingham Palace, when something caught my eye.

Amazingly, it was rally driver Ken Block’s insane Ford Mustang. You may have seen it in his Gymkhana 7 video. The man himself was standing in the middle of The Mall, next to his parked car, with a rather famous face for company.

Matt LeBlanc, recently confirmed Top Gear presenter, was with him and the two were surrounded by crew members. It just so happened that I had stumbled across filming for the new series.
Having taken a few pictures, my friend and I headed down to Buckingham Palace, thinking the filming had finished. But as we walked around St James’s Park, we heard a rather loud noise.

The Mustang was powering down The Mall, followed by a pick-up truck filming the whole thing. Of course, there was also a heavy police presence, with eight motorbikes giving Block and LeBlanc a police escort up the famous street.
Naturally, I ran over to watch and we were treated to a couple of runs up and down The Mall, although none of them were done at particularly high speed. The crew were not allowed to say what show it was for and what was going on but it was pretty clear to see.

I took quite a few pictures but realised today I hadn’t properly shared them all, so thought I would chuck them all in here. It was a pretty cool thing to see and was a nice surprise!
