Running on the opening day had to be extended due to rain in the morning, but dry conditions meant it was a busy and productive end to the test.

Day 1:

Pascal Wehrlein set the quickest time on day one of the Red Bull Ring test, driving for Mercedes. Rain was falling as the session got underway on Tuesday morning, but it quickly intensified.

Stoffel Vandoorne and Antonio Fuoco were the only drivers to venture out onto the circuit for McLaren and Ferrari, before the red flags emerged as a pre-caution until the lunch break.

The weather improved in time for the start of the afternoon session, with drivers initially taking to the track on the full wet tyre, before quickly switching to intermediates.

Soon conditions were good enough for slicks, with times soon tumbling. Following the earlier delay, the decision was made to extend the day's running by two hours, with a new end to the session of 20:00pm.

Wehrlein continued to improve throughout the afternoon and ended the day fastest with a 1:11.055, after completing 67 laps. It was a fairly trouble-free day for the German, as he gained more vital F1 experience.

Esteban Ocon was at the wheel of Force India's upgraded VJM08. He finished second on the timesheets after managing 76 laps, with Toro Rosso's Max Verstappen in third. The Dutch rookie completed the most laps of anyone with a tally of 97.

Antonio Fuoco made his F1 test debut for Ferrari and the GP3 driver enjoyed a productive afternoon of running, until he put a wheel on the grass on the run to Turn 1, spun and crashed into the wall with three hours to go.

A late rain shower with one hour to go meant no drivers were able to improve. Romain Grosjean was fifth for Lotus, with Pierre Gasly completing almost twice as many laps (80) as his countryman in sixth for Red Bull Racing.

Sauber F1 reserve driver Raffaele Marciello was seventh for the Swiss outfit, ahead of Vandoorne and Susie Wolff. The Williams test driver managed just 39 laps at the wheel of the FW37, which featured some unusual winglets in front of the rear wheels.

Day 2:

The second and final day of testing was more productive, with running taking place in dry conditions. Nico Rosberg set the pace for Mercedes with a 1:09.113, completing 110 laps.

The German was third fastest in the morning but improved in the afternoon to go fastest. Esteban Gutierrez was second on the timesheets, despite a delayed start and a trip through the gravel trap before the lunch break.

It was the Mexican's second time driving the Ferrari SF15-T and he also managed 110 laps. Valtteri Bottas was third for Williams, not running the team's unusual winglets. He set the pace in the morning with a 1:10.029 but did not improve his time in the afternoon, with focus switching to set-up work.

DTM champion Marco Wittmann made his test debut for Toro Rosso and lapped the Red Bull Ring 158 times - more than any other driver on Wednesday. Pascal Wehrlein moved over to Force India and was fifth, ahead of Jolyon Palmer - who brought out a late red flag in the closing minutes - and Fernando Alonso.

It was a busy day for McLaren and the Spaniard managed 104 laps in total - five fewer than Palmer. Daniel Ricciardo was eighth quickest for Red Bull Racing. He caused a red flag in the final hour after a brake problem but returned to the track and boosted his lap tally to 116. Felipe Nasr completed the results for Sauber in ninth.
