Nine cars took to the track, with Force India's VJM08 finally being revealed after several delays.

It was a productive and busy morning, with no red flag interruptions. Sebastian Vettel, Nico Rosberg and Pastor Maldonado were the first to take to the track. Max Verstappen set the opening timed lap with a 1:56.933, which was quickly beaten by Felipe Nasr and Rosberg.

The 2015 field sported plenty of aero sensors in the first few hours of running, as teams gathered more data on their new cars.

The VJM08 took to the track ahead of schedule, 40 minutes before the lunch break. Nico Hulkenberg was behind the wheel, completing several installation laps before setting a 1:31.165 just before the morning session concluded.

A short run on the soft tyre compound saw Felipe Nasr jump to the top of the timesheets with a 1:24.071, ending the morning fastest. Following the lunch break, Vettel was the first to return to the track. Hulkenberg continued to set personal bests, while Valtteri Bottas moved up to second with a 1:24.944.

A switch to the soft tyre saw the Finn go fastest, putting in a 1:23.995. The day's first red flag emerged 20 minutes into the afternoon session after Daniil Kvyat stopped his car with a hydraulic sensor issue at turn one, which delayed Red Bull's programme.

Bottas didn't remain at the top of the timesheets for long, with the Mercedes W06 taking to the track for the first time on the soft tyre compound. Rosberg put in an impressive 1:22.792 to go 1.2 seconds clear of the field. He ended the day quickest and completed 106 laps.

Bottas was second for Williams after a positive day for the Grove-based outfit, managing 90 laps. Nasr was third for Sauber, with Vettel in fourth. The four-time world champion enjoyed a quiet but very productive day behind the wheel of the Ferrari SF15-T, lapping the circuit 143 times.

A quick run on the soft tyre mid-way through the afternoon saw Jenson Button jump to fifth. It was a break-through day for McLaren, with Button completing 101 laps - almost as many as the team managed at the second winter test. However, he did cause a late red flag period after stopping at turn eight.

Maldonado was sixth for Lotus, completing the second highest tally of laps - 140. He brought out the red flags in the final minute of running after parking the Lotus E23 at the pit entry. Verstappen's day was cut short by an electrical issue, but the youngster still managed 139 laps in total.

Kvyat was eighth for Red Bull, with Hulkenberg completing the timesheets. The German got his fastest time down to a 1:28.412 and managed 77 laps, an impressive tally considering Force India's late start.
