Manager: Schumacher has a "long and hard" fight ahead

On the first anniversary of Michael Schumacher's terrible skiing accident, his manager Sabine Kehm has given a small update on his condition.

She also rubbished reports from a French newspaper, which quoted former F1 driver Philippe Streiff as saying the seven-time champion was "beginning to recognise those around him" and is "working on sitting upright".

Schumacher suffered severe head injuries in a skiing accident in the French Alps exactly one year ago today. He spent six months at Grenoble Hospital, before it was announced in June that he was no longer in a coma and had been moved to a rehabilitation centre in Switzerland.

In September Kehm released a new statement confirming that he was making progress and returned home. Speaking to Reuters on Sunday, she gave a short update on his recovery.

"We need a long time. It is going to be a long time and a hard fight. He is making progress appropriate to the severity of the situation."

Reacting to the reports from French newspaper Le Parisien, Kehm said the reports were "factually incorrect".

She added: "I cannot confirm that [report]. I can only confirm that I do not know where Mr. Streiff has his information from because he has no contact with us and he never has."

Keep fighting Michael.
