The Brackley-based outfit needed to score at least 25 points at the Sochi Autodrom to take the title.

Lewis Hamilton dominated the race to take his ninth win of the season, with Nico Rosberg finishing in second place after recovering from an early pit stop.

The team scored a maximum 43 points in Russia, increasing its tally to 565 - moving 223 ahead of Red Bull Racing.

It is the first time that Mercedes has won the constructors' title, which was introduced in 1958.

It was clear from the very first winter test that the Mercedes W05 was the car to beat in 2014. It was not only very fast, but it was also reliable too as F1 entered a new era.

The Mercedes V6 Turbo power-unit has undoubtedly been the best of the bunch. Meanwhile the car has proved to be strong in every area and the team's two drivers have dominated the season.

The fight for the drivers' crown is still to be decided, with Hamilton leading the championship by 17 points with three races remaining in the USA, Brazil and the double-points round in Abu Dhabi.

UPDATE:

Mercedes celebrated winning the constructors' championship in Brackley and Brixworth, with senior management, Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg visiting to address and congratulate all of the team members for their hard work and dedication.
