The second session was rather quiet, with rain limiting running early on. Conditions improved enough for a few frantic laps on the slick tyres, with Fernando Alonso topping the timesheets.
Marcus Ericsson revealed a special one-off helmet for the Monaco Grand Prix. The design was a tribute to Ronnie Peterson on the 40th anniversary of his win around the Monte Carlo streets.
Thursday was a positive day for Red Bull, with Daniel Ricciardo and Sebastian Vettel looking closer to the Mercedes drivers in first and second practice. Saturday
Daniil Kvyat recovered from a crash in Q1 to make it through to the final session. He qualified ninth in the Toro Rosso, just behind fellow rookie Kevin Magnussen.
Rosberg stormed to pole position in controversial circumstances. The German driver went off track at Mirabeau on his final run, which brought out the yellow flags and meant Hamilton couldn't improve. Some felt he did it on purpose, but the FIA disagreed following a detailed investigation. Sunday
Raikkonen was on course for a strong result when he was hit by Max Chilton during the second safety car period, as the Brit attempted to move back onto the lead lap. The Finn was forced to pit with a puncture before a collision with Kevin Magnussen in the closing stages dropped him outside of the points.
