The Formula 1 teams remained at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain for the second in-season test of the year.
In total, there will be four tests this season. The first two-day event took place after round three of the 2014 season in Bahrain and the final two will take place in Britain and Abu Dhabi.
Each team must devote one of the available sessions to tyre testing with Pirelli. At the Bahrain International Circuit, Caterham, Mercedes and Williams all worked with the Italian supplier.
In Spain, Sauber and Toro Rosso tested with Pirelli on Tuesday before Force India and McLaren took over on Wednesday.
Surprisingly, Max Chilton was fastest on the opening day of the Barcelona in-season test. The Marussia driver completed a late, low-fuel run on the super-soft tyre to put in a 1m26.434. It was a productive day and he managed a total of 60 laps.
Following earlier rain, the track surface was damp and slippery for the morning session on Tuesday. This limited running, but conditions were good enough for slick tyres by the afternoon.
The second day of running was dry throughout with stunning Spanish sunshine bathing the 2.9 mile track. Jules Bianchi took over driving duties at Marussia on Wednesday but he only managed 55 laps after a mechanical problem forced him to sit on the sidelines for most of the afternoon.
He ended the day sixth fastest. Charles Pic got his first taste of 2014 F1 machinery and was second fastest on day one. It was his first on-track appearance for Lotus after joining the team over the winter as a reserve driver.
Pastor Maldonado was at the wheel of the Renault-powered E22 on day two and set the fastest time of the day with a 1m24.871. He completed 102 laps overall. Lewis Hamilton was third on day one of the test.
He set the pace in the wet morning session but slipped to third in the afternoon, completing 79 laps in total. Nico Rosberg then took over driving the car on day two and managed 102 laps, finishing second on the timesheets.
The German had a 'megaphone' exhaust fitted to his Mercedes W05 early on as part of a test to try and increase the volume of the new-for-2014 V6 Turbo power-units. Kimi Raikkonen drove for Ferrari on both days of the test.
He finished fourth on Tuesday after completing only 20 laps (he stopped on the track twice) and set the third fastest time on Wednesday, where he managed 93 tours of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Jean-Eric Vergne finished fifth fastest on day one. The Frenchman completed 50 laps, 29 more than his team-mate Daniil Kvyat managed on the second day. The Russian rookie caused two red flags in the morning session.
Nico Hulkenberg was at the wheel of the Force India VJM07 on Tuesday, finishing sixth fastest and completing 52 laps, before the team's test driver Daniel Juncadella took over on Wednesday. He tested with Pirelli and managed 91 laps, but he did spin twice.
Felipe Massa was seventh on day one for Williams, with Susie Wolff setting the fifth fastest time on her first day at the wheel of the Mercedes-powered FW36 on day two. Both drivers managed 55 laps in the car each.
Jenson Button and Stoffel Vandoorne shared driving duties, with the former finishing eighth on day one after 73 laps and the latter setting the ninth fastest time on day two after managing 135 laps while testing for Pirelli.
It was the ART GP2 driver's first time at the wheel of a Formula 1 car. Kamui Kobayashi was ninth quickest on Tuesday for Caterham. He could have added more laps to his total of 72 had he not crashed the CT05 at turn three with half an hour of the afternoon session remaining.
The team was forced to pull out of day two after discovering that the chassis was too heavily damaged to run. Reserve driver Robin Frijns had been scheduled to drive the car. Sebastian Buemi sampled 2014 F1 machinery for the first time on Tuesday, finishing 10th on the timesheets after 54 laps.
Sebastian Vettel took over driving the RB10 on the following day. The German driver didn't emerge from the pit garage in the opening two hours of the morning. He eventually finished seventh fastest and a more productive afternoon boosted his lap tally to 72.
Giedo van der Garde drove for Sauber on Tuesday and propped up the order after completing 85 laps. Esteban Gutierrez then took to the track on Wednesday for the Swiss outfit and finished fourth. The Mexican lapped the track 84 times.
