There will be four tests in total this season, with Spain, Britain and Abu Dhabi hosting the remaining two-day events. Each team must devote one of the available sessions to tyre testing with Pirelli.

Caterham was the first outfit to work with the Italian supplier on Tuesday, before Mercedes and Williams took over testing of Pirelli's 2015 prototype tyre compounds on Wednesday.

Mercedes, who currently leads the constructors' championship, dominated both days, with Nico Rosberg setting the pace on day one with a 1m35.697 and Lewis Hamilton comfortably topping the day two timesheets with a 34.136.

Rosberg and Hamilton completed 121 and 120 laps respectively. Force India is currently second in the teams' standings following a very successful Bahrain Grand Prix. Nico Hulkenberg set the second fastest lap on day one, managing 68 laps, with Sergio Perez taking over driving the VJM07 on Wednesday.

The Mexican lapped the Sakhir circuit 62 times and set the fourth quickest time. It was a largely trouble-free test for the Silverstone-based squad. McLaren made a last-minute change to its schedule, with Kevin Magnussen driving the Mercedes-powered MP4-29 on both test days.

The Danish rookie was fourth on the opening day after completing 101 laps. However, he could only add 26 to his overall tally on day two after an off-track excursion caused by a mechanical problem. He set the third fastest time, just over two seconds down on Hamilton's benchmark, after returning to the track late in the afternoon.

Daniel Ricciardo also drove on both days. The Aussie suffered a slow start on Tuesday but set the seventh fastest time and completed 91 laps at the wheel of the Red Bull RB10. Wednesday was slightly less productive, but he managed 65 laps and finished fifth on the timesheets.

Ferrari's running on day two ended early due to chassis damage, which is thought to have been a consequence of Kimi Raikkonen's ride across the kerbs during first practice for last weekend's race, after just 12 laps for Fernando Alonso. It was the Spaniard's second session in the car, after he completed 67 laps and set the third fastest time on the first day.

Valtteri Bottas drove the FW36 for Williams on Tuesday, managing just 28 laps before his session was cut short during the afternoon. Felipe Nasr took over driving duties on day two, completing tyre testing with Pirelli. He was 10th fastest and gained 64 laps at the wheel of a Formula 1 car.

Toro Rosso split driving duties at the test between its two race drivers. Daniil Kvyat finished 11th on day one after 67 laps, with Jean-Eric Vergne completing 63 laps and jumping to second after a late improvement on day two.

Lotus had a disastrous test, with Pastor Maldonado and Romain Grosjean managing just 16 laps each. Both days were cut short due to power-unit problems. Sauber used its reserve and test drivers at the Bahrain in-season test, with Sergey Sirotkin taking to the track on Tuesday.

The Russian teenager completed the required mileage for his F1 superlicense. Giedo van der Garde drove the Ferrari-powered C33 on Wednesday, managing 77 laps (two more than Sirotkin's tally) and setting the seventh fastest time.

Max Chilton lapped the desert circuit 60 times on day one despite stopping his Marussia MR03 on track prior to the lunch break. Jules Bianchi managed 93 laps in the car on day two, with both drivers finishing their respective sessions in sixth place.

Caterham was the first team to complete tyre testing with Pirelli. Robin Frijns helped F1's sole tyre supplier gain 63 laps worth of data and information on the prototype compounds, but the Dutch driver's running was limited to the morning after the team discovered a hydraulics leak.

Marcus Ericsson was at the wheel of the Renault-powered CT05 on day two, but he also suffered reliability problems. The Swedish rookie finished ninth on the timesheets after 66 laps.

The next in-season test will take place at the Circuit de Catalunya on the 13-14th May, just after the 2014 Spanish Grand Prix.
