Both cars took to the track late in the day due to technical problems and were not given official launches, unlike the new cars from Mercedes, Red Bull and Force India.

The Williams FW36 will continue to use the 'heritage blue' livery during winter testing, before the team reveals its race design prior to the first round in Australia.

Reports currently suggest that the team will secure title sponsorship from Italian alcohol beverage company Martini for the 2014 season. For now, we will have to wait and see as it doesn't look likely that we will hear any news in the near future.

Valterri Bottas completed seven laps at the wheel of the Grove-based outfit's new car, finishing third on the day one timesheets. The team had planned to get its testing programme underway as soon as possible, but a problem discovered on Monday night caused a considerable delay.

Fortunately, the team managed to get a crucial few laps of running in before the chequered flag. The team released computerised images of the car last week, with the renders also featuring in the February issue of F1 Racing Magazine. However, we finally got to see the car out on track.

Caterham's 2014 car also made its debut in the Jerez pit lane, but unlike the Williams we had no idea what it would look like.

The team has gone for an unusual front wing design, keeping up the welcome trend of all the outfits taking a different design approach. It was due to be launched in the Jerez pit lane but unfortunately, a problem with the car forced the unveiling to be cancelled.

However, there was a hive of activity surrounding their garage as photographers battled to get the best images of the new CT05. Marcus Ericsson was at the wheel, but the Swedish driver only completed one installation lap.

Cyril Abiteboul, team principal and CEO of the team, said: "Unveiling CT05 is a proud moment for me and the whole team, especially with both F1 and Caterham entering a new era in 2014. Our shareholders and partners have made major investments in the people and facilities at Leafield, giving us a platform to work on the 2014 car that is now much closer to many of the teams ahead and, this year, there is no reason for this to not materialize directly to performance on track.

"We believe CT05 is a good starting point for us to deal with the new regulations and their associated challenges, in particular in terms of reliability. We have a lot of very talented people at Leafield who have worked tirelessly to bring this car to life and everyone has played a part in helping us exceed all the targets we set.

We obviously won’t know where we really are in relation to the other teams until the first race, but we believe we have answered the challenges presented by the new regulations as effectively as we can."
