Formula Legend is a clever new management game available for iOS and Android devices. It is not only fun but also slightly addictive...
The game gives players the chance to start a fictional racing career and compete in races using tactics and strategy. There is a real shortage of Formula 1 games on phone and tablet devices so BeerMogul's latest offering is a refreshing change.
Formula Legend focuses on the strategic element to racing, rather than the driving itself. Players first join a team - some of which have hilarious names (i.e. McChlorine) - before starting the first of 19 races.
During races, players change the amount of aggression on track to maximise performance. However, you have to keep an eye on tyre degradation and fuel consumption. It is a difficult balance to find.
You play against current drivers modelled on their performances in 2013. During races a series of mini-games pop up, enabling you to gain or lose time depending on your performance. Pit stops can also help you gain or lose time as well as giving players the chance to shape their race through strategy.
At the end of the race, players are awarded winnings for their finishing position and a salary for each race - your salary per race increases when you move to bigger and more successful teams. More teams become available as you complete more seasons in the game.
The more successful you are out on track, the more money you will make and the more upgrades you can fit to the car. You can also upgrade your race engineer, who stays with you throughout your career.
Formula Legend is a great little game that can be played on the go. Not only is it well structured and fun, but it is also interactive and quite addictive.

The game is an on-going development with new upgrades being delivered regularly. The most recent upgrade added a 'pro' level where, for £1.99, you can add wet weather and the ability to move rival drivers to other teams.
Something that I would like to see added in future upgrades is a qualifying mode, as grid orders are often quite random and can sometimes be unrealistic. It would also be nice to see a few more mini-games added to the game, as I can see them getting a bit repetitive as time goes on.
All in all though, it is a nifty little app that is definitely a must for F1 fans, particularly during the off season.
