The Aussie, who finished fifth at the Belgian Grand Prix, let slip to media that Ricciardo will drive for the squad next season, although there has been no official confirmation from the team.

The drive has been hotly discussed in the F1 paddock but recent news suggests that the youngster's closest rival for the seat, Kimi Raikkonen, has failed to meet terms with the team.

Webber told Australian network Channel 10: "The decision is made. We all know who it is. I'm happy with that decision. It's good for him and good for Australia."

Christian Horner was asked about the comments, saying: "I've never known a driver sign another driver yet. At the end of the day we've got plenty to take into consideration.

When the time's right we'll let you know what that is. We've been surprised at the interest and we're not in any rush. We've got time on our side to make the right decision."

Earlier reports suggested that Ricciardo would be confirmed as a Red Bull driver for 2014 over the Belgian Grand Prix weekend. However, that failed to materialise as he raced to 10th place for Toro Rosso.

Raikkonen looks to be out of the running after reports that he was no longer in talks with Red Bull over a seat for next season and looks likely to remain at Lotus.
