Sauber yet to pay Pirelli?

Reports are continuing to emerge detailing the financial struggle of the Sauber F1 Team.

The Swiss team pride themselves on performing strongly in the midfield despite a small budget, but German paper Bild am Sontag are reporting that the teams debts are up to €80 million with €35 million of which being debts to suppliers.

Helmut Uhl and Frank Schneider - the papers correspondents - reveal that the "time bomb is ticking" with Sauber's recent Russian investment yet to be finalised.

They report that within the €35 million of debts to suppliers includes unpaid Ferrari customer engine bills and unpaid bills to Pirelli for its tyres in 2013.

It is already widely known that the team has been unable to pay lead driver Nico Hulkenberg but rumours in the report by Bild am Sontag reveal that Esteban Gutierrez may also be waiting payment for his services so far this year.

It even goes to report that Kamui Kobayashi is still owed money from his season with the squad in 2012. Of course these are all rumours at the moment with no official confirmation from Sauber.

But the delay in the Russian investment and the uncertainty over whether Sergey Sirotkin - the 17-year-old Formula Renault 3.5 drivers that seemingly comes with the deal - will be ready for F1 next year could see the deal close completely.

That is what is being reported by the German paper, with the two correspondents saying Sauber need to think of  a 'plan B', which could see the team sold to new owners.

Former Force India and HRT team boss Colin Kolles is apparently waiting in the wings with backing from sponsors in exchange for a stake in the Sauber team.
