The up-coming Silverstone Young Driver Test - which Mercedes have been banned from - will be open to the viewing public, FOTA have confirmed.
They confirmed the news on their twitter account @OllyFOTA. The event will help bring fans closer to Formula One machinery at a cheaper price and will be a fantastic event for those attending.
Tweeting the news, FOTA said: " Young Drivers' Test at Silverstone on July 17-19 will be made available to the public. Tickets on sale via Silverstone website in due course."
The tickets are on sale via the Silverstone website now and cost £15 per day (as said by FOTA in a response to a tweet) or £35 for the full three days. You can book in advance or on the day and kids under 15 go free.
10 teams will participate in the test which allows drivers running in junior formula to experience Formula One and gain vital mileage behind the wheel of a 2013 machine.
The test will be scrapped next season in favour of four in-season tests that will each last two days. However Sam Michael said at the FOTA Fans Forum in London last week that McLaren would be unlikely to run their race drivers at the test and will more likely run a young driver or reserve driver.
Red Bull Racing has already revealed its two runners in the test; Formula Renault 3.5 series front-runner Antonio Felix da Costa and GP3 racer Carlos Sainz Junior. Marussia will field Tio Ellinas who is part of their young driver programme.
Mercedes reserve driver Sam Bird will not take part in the test after Mercedes were excluded from it for breaking sporting regulations in a 'private' test with Pirelli after the Spanish Grand Prix.
2013 race rookies Max Chilton and Valtteri Bottas gained vital experience in last years Young Driver Test hosted at the Silverstone circuit. 2012 saw three differing test locations, with some teams testing at Magny-Cours, some using the Silverstone circuit and some running in Abu Dhabi.
More drivers will be confirmed in the near future.
In other YDT news, Jean Todt - head of the FIA - confirmed reports that the test will be altered so race drivers can indeed take part in the test. This is in a bid to aid development.
Speaking on the news, Todt said: "Our priority is to ensure safety for all in Formula 1 and we believe the incidents at Silverstone represent a genuine safety concern for the drivers. We have thus taken the decision to alter the Young Driver Test to allow teams to use drivers they deem fit to carry out tyre development work in a bid to solve the problems we saw at the British Grand Prix. I believe it is fitting to carry out this work at the circuit upon which the issues were manifested.
This now means that young drivers who had been confirmed for the test or were in talks with teams about testing may not get their chance to drive Formula 1 machinery.
