Codemasters lifts the lid on F1 2013 game

Codemasters have been keeping the up-coming F1 2013 game under-wraps so far, until now.

The new game will be launched this autumn and will be available for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. It will come in two forms, the standard F1 2013 game and a new "Classic Edition" which will feature allow gamers to race classic cars on classic circuits against iconic drivers.

A teaser trailer for the new edition has been released and can be seen here:

The follow-up to the hugely popular F1 2010, F1 2011 and F1 2012 will have all the drivers, teams and circuits from the 2013 season and will see Codemasters go into their fourth overall Formula 1 project after the F1 2009 edition for Wii and PSP.

The newly announced "Classic" side of the game is brand new for the franchise introduced by legendary commentator Murray Walker. It will include five iconic 1980's cars from Ferrari, Williams and Lotus alongside tracks like Brands Hatch and the Circuito De Jerez. Drivers that will be able to race against include Nigel Mansell, Mario Andretti and Gerhard Berger.

There will also be 1990's content with cars from Ferrari and Williams. David Coulthard, Jacques Villeneuve and Alain Prost will be in the game as well as the Imola and Estoril tracks. The 1990's and additional tracks just mentioned will be available in additional packs. They will come with the "Classic" edition and will be available shortly after release as optional DLC for players of F1 2013.

However I would like to make it clear that if you get the standard edition, you still get the 1980's content and "Classic" aspect but with the - what will presumably be the more expensive - Classic Edition you get the 1980's content plus the 1990's and classic tracks.

Fans will no doubt be happy with the classic content which has been highly requested.

Alongside the big new classical aspect, Codemasters are pushing to improve what they already have with tuned handling, improved graphics and updates to coincide with the rule changes for 2013.

The Young Driver Test will be more aimed at novice F1 gamers that gets increasingly demanding as the three days go on. There will also be a new mid-session save system where you can take part on a full race weekend at your own pace, saving during sessions and taking as much time as you need. There will also be the return of the Grand Prix mode.

Enhancements to split screen, multi-player and online modes will make it the most complete Formula 1 experience in videogame history.

RaceNet, Codemasters free online community hub, will be fully integrated with F1 2013.

Popular F1 game YouTuber IntoTheBarrier went to the press launch of the game and revealed an important part of the game: you can race the classic cars on the new and modern circuits alongside racing new cars on the old tracks.

He got to video his exclusive first sessions on the game at the launch, take a look here:
