The FIA has confirmed that Paul Allen, a British cameraman, was taken to hospital after receiving treatment at the Nurburgring medical centre.

Mark Webber pitted for the first time on lap nine but there was a delay on the right-rear wheel. He was released into the pit-lane with a loose wheel which was set free shortly after he left the pit box.

The wheel then traveled down the pit-lane and narrowly missed the awaiting Lotus crew before unfortunately hitting Allen who was filming in the pit lane for Formula One Management.

The FIA released a statement after the incident saying: "During the German GP, an FOM cameraman in pit lane was struck by a loose wheel. Paul Allen was hit on the left hand side. Remaining conscious, he was treated at the circuit medical centre and then transported by helicopter to Koblenz Hospital.

"The Briton has been kept there, under observation. Further information from the hospital will be provided as soon as it becomes available."

Webber managed to recover from the delay to finish seventh in the dramatic 60 lap race.

The unsafe release of the Aussie was put under investigation by the stewards who later gave Red Bull Racing a €30,000 fine for the incident.

Force India were fined €5,000 for their unsafe release after Paul Di Resta rejoined the pit lane in front of Jean-Eric Vergne's Toro Rosso.

It has been confirmed now after speculation that Allen suffered a broken collarbone and two broken ribs.

I would like to with Paul Allen a speedy recovery after the unfortunate incident.
