Former Lotus Technical Director James Allison has been announced as Ferrari's Chassis Technical Director.

He will re-join the team from September onwards and will move from his previous team - Enstone based Lotus.

Allison left Lotus in May this year and was replaced by Nick Chester. He began his F1 career with Benetton in 1991 before moving to first Larrousse, then returning to Benetton before jumping ship to Ferrari in 2000.

He returned to Enstone based Renault - formerly Benetton - in 2005 and remained there until earlier this year. Over his years at Renault and their transition to Lotus, he moved from Deputy Technical Director to Technical Director in 2009.

Ferrari also announced that current Technical Director Nick Fry will take on a new position as Head of Engineering at the Maranello based squad, with both Fry and Allison reporting directly to Team Principal Stefano Domenicali.

Rumours swirling around the paddock suggest that Fernando Alonso is interested in leaving Ferrari and moving to Red Bull Racing in 2014 to replace Mark Webber.

Domenicali was swift to crush those rumours when asked about it, saying: "No. First of all we have a contract with him.

"Fernando is an asset to the team. We need him to work very closely with everyone because this is a difficult moment in the season. It's about team work. We have to deliver a job, full stop. This is the same for everyone, not only for him."

The rumour started to circulate after Alonso's manager Luis Garcia Abad was seen talking to Christian Horner - Red Bull's Team Principal. However Abad says that he was talking to Horner about another driver that he manages, GP3 racer Carlos Sainz Junior who recently tested for Red Bull Racing and junior team Toro Rosso at the Silverstone Young Driver Test.
