Daniel Ricciardo had a busy Thursday at the Silverstone circuit, testing for both Toro Rosso and Red Bull Racing at the Young Driver Test.
The pressure was on as the Aussie effectively auditioned for the vacant 2014 Red Bull drive - Horner previously admitted that it was down Raikkonen and Ricciardo - and despite finding the gravel trap after just seven laps at the wheel of the RB9, his fastest time piloting the Toro Rosso STR8 set earlier in the day managed to remain at the top.
The youngster completed 48 laps in the STR8 and set a best time of 1m32.972. That was the morning and he moved over to Red Bull Racing after lunch to tackle arguably the fastest car of the season, the RB9.
He found the gravel trap at Luffied after just seven laps and that cost him time - something he admitted was his own error. However he was soon back out on track after the brief delay to complete 59 laps and set a best time just two tenths shy of his previous best effort - not bad considering the unfamiliarity of the car.
Carlos Sainz Junior got his first taste of F1 machinery in the afternoon thanks to Toro Rosso and set the second fastest time, separating the two times set by Ricciardo (who had his name on the results page twice due to his car hopping). The GP3 racer impressed on his debut and got up to speed surprisingly quickly.
The first of the non- Red Bull sponsored cars was the Lotus of Davide Valsecchi. The second Davide taking part in the Young Driver Test - after Davide Rigon in the Ferrari - completed 91 laps at the wheel of the E21 and had the car all to himself. Next up was Oliver Turvey who drove the McLaren MP4-28 (which topped day one in the hands of Kevin Magnussen) and completed 97 laps respectively.
James Calado drove the Force India VJM06 on Wednesday morning and looked fast from the offset (from my eyes anyway as I was there). He returned to the car on Thursday morning and set the sixth fastest time - his best effort of 47 laps. Antonio Felix da Costa ran in the Red Bull in the morning session and set the seventh fastest time, ahead of Rigon's Ferrari and Pastor Maldonado's Williams.
The race drivers taking part in the Young Driver Test focused fully on the Pirelli tyres and the schedules given to the teams by the supplier. Nico Hulkenberg set the 10th fastest time after his afternoon drive with the second Williams driver taking part in the test, Daniel Juncadella, setting the 11th fastest time of the day.
Robin Frijns got more crucial time behind the wheel of the Sauber C32 after his run on Wednesday and set the 12th fastest time ahead of Will Stevens. The Brit drove the Caterham and lapped the track 98 times - the most of anybody. His fastest time was three seconds off the pace but it was his first time at the wheel of an F1 car.
Paul Di Resta drove for Force India in the afternoon and set the 14th fastest time with Rodolfo Gonzalez rounding out the results in 15th for Marussia - he completed 92 laps.
