The Brit said that the track is "really special" and holds good memories after he took his debut victory in the sport at the 2007 Canadian Grand Prix before adding to his win tallies in 2010 and 2012.

Speaking in a team statement previewing the next round of the 2013 season, Hamilton admitted that track is one of his stronger ones: "The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve has been a strong circuit for me and I've been lucky enough too win there three times in my career, including last season. It's always a great weekend in Montreal with a fun atmosphere in the city and at the track."

He also shared his feelings on the layout, adding "The circuit itself is really special; it's very high-speed, great fun to drive and it's definitely a track where late braking helps." He also compared it to Monaco in its style as you need a similar set-up to "bounce off the kerbs".

The 28-year-old expects Mercedes to be "quite competitive" in Canada but expects "looking after the tyres" to be the teams main challenge and hurdle to overcome. He added "There's a really good feeling in the team at the moment following Nico's win in Monaco and we're continuing to work hard to make sure we have the potential for more victories this season."

Monaco Grand Prix winner Nico Rosberg also voiced his excitement at returning to Canada, saying: "The Canadian Grand Prix is always a great event as the fans in Montreal are so enthusiastic. The whole city really loves the race and it's such a lively place to be over the weekend."

He added "it's great to see that enthusiasm" in the fans before moving on to discuss the track layout itself, adding "The circuit itself is one of my favourite tracks on the calendar and I love the challenge of driving there. It's a very difficult layout to drive because of the low down force levels required for the long straights and it will be tough on tyres."

The German also admitted that he is hoping to "maintain the momentum" from his round six win in Monaco this weekend and "will be going all out for another strong performance."

One big change to the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team has been the arrival of Paddy Lowe as the teams Executive Director (Technical). Lowe starts work today (3rd June) and Ross Brawn touched on the subject when discussing the efforts being sustained to maintain their front running performance: "Both Lewis and Nico have spent time in the factory with us since Monaco and with Paddy Lowe starting at Brackley today, I'm confident that all efforts are being made to sustain that level of performance."

Mercedes look to maintain their position at the front but tyres will be the big talking point for them. It has caused them concern over past race weekends and the tweaked 2013 compounds will not be introduced for the race by Pirelli until the British Grand Prix at the end of June. Canada will be the real test as to whether not only that they have resolved their tyre issues but also any impact on performance from the controversial Pirelli tyre test at the Circuit de Catalunya after the Spanish Grand Prix.
