The Sahara Force India team will surpass their 100th Grand Prix this weekend in Canada, something Team Principal Vijay Mallya is rightfully proud of.
2008 saw the Silverstone based team debut on the grid after taking over the Spyker team. They spent most of the season racing at the back but fast forward to present day and they are fighting hard at the front, scoring double points finishes.
Speaking in a team preview, Mallya shared how proud he is at reaching the goal and how their fortunes have changed: "When we started back in 2008 we simply had the ambition to break out of Q1 and we dreamed of scoring points. Seeing where we stand today is therefore extremely rewarding and motivates us all to continue working just as hard for the next 100 races.
He also feels that Force India are "knocking on the door" of their first podium finish since 2009 - when Giancarlo Fisichella raced to second place in Belgium - after a double points finish in Monaco. He said "It's time to do that all-important step. Montreal would be a great place to do so - it is a track that favours overtaking and our car has shown the race pace to finish among the leaders, so everything is possible."
Di Resta kicked off his preview of the next round by reflecting on a difficult Monaco Grand Prix qualifying session which put him on the back foot for the race. However he managed to recover well to finish ninth. The Scot said "I think it's a sign of our competitiveness that we were a bit disappointed with ninth. I definitely felt we had the performance to be higher up the points, but the issues in qualifying put us on the back foot. That's the thing with Monaco, it's all about track position, but I did enjoy a few overtaking moves into turn one."
Looking ahead to Canada, Di Resta is confident that the team will manage a result worth celebrating on the teams 100th Grand Prix weekend: "We've been competitive on every track this year and that's a credit to the team, so we expect to be at our usual level once again. It's traditionally a track that has suited us, so we go there confident that we can fight towards the front once again."
Team-mate Adrian Sutil shared his thoughts on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, revealing that it is one of his personal favourites. He said "It's definitely one of my favourite races on the calendar because it's a great city. It's also an interesting and unusual track, and it can be a long race with different scenario's and strategy options. I like the circuit, but for some reason I've never had good results there. Hopefully we can change that this year."
Sahara Force India currently sit fifth in the constructors championship, some way behind Mercedes but just ahead of former front-runners McLaren.
