It was widely reported over the winter that the 51-year-old would make the move to Mercedes after his McLaren contract ran out. An agreement was made from both parties enabling Lowe to move to the Brackley bases squad earlier than planned.

Speaking about the news, Lowe shared his excitement on moving to the “Silver Arrows.” He said in a team statement “I am excited to become part of a highly talented and capable technical organisation.” He added “The team has already produced probably the fastest car of the 2013 season,” in qualifying anyway, “while the technical challenges of the new regulations for 2014 will give us the opportunity to maximise the synergies available to a works manufacturer.”

He concluded, saying “That is a challenge I am relishing. I look forward to much success together in the years ahead.”

Ross Brawn, Team Principal, commented on the announcement. He shared his delight at welcoming Paddy to the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team. “I am delighted to welcome Paddy to the team and to begin working together. He has an excellent record of success in the sport and would be an asset to any of our rivals in the pit lane.”

Looking to the future, according to Brawn it is looking bright. “Paddy’s arrival will further strengthen our organisation and puts us in a strong position for the future.”

Lowe will be a big asset to the team and will really the team to overcome their 2013 race pace struggles, along with helping in the development of their 2014 machine.
