So far in 2013, the switch to Sauber has proved underwhelming and the C32 has proved to be unable to challenge at the front of the midfield pack like his former team Force India are doing. However he feels that the dynamics of the tight, twisty Monaco circuit and the return of the soft tyre compound can see them return to form.

Speaking in a press release previewing the race, he said "In terms of performance, I'm quite positive. We've seen that the softer tyre compounds suit us quite well, which gives me confidence we'll have a good weekend."

The German also enjoys racing on the circuit and shared his excitement at returning to the principality,"I'm really looking forward to the Monaco Grand Prix," he said. "The Circuit along with the backdrop of the principality are just fantastic, and the atmosphere is one of the best in the season."

Track-wise, the 25-year-old added that the circuit punishes "every little mistake" with its "extremely narrow streets" and intimidating barriers. "This is a great challenge between me, the car and the track, and I always have a lot of fun driving there."

Rookie team-mate Esteban Gutierrez agreed with him, saying "Driving on the limit through the narrow streets of Monaco is something special that I am really looking forward to. It's one of my favourite tracks," he admitted, before continuing to say "I've driven there in GP2 twice and competing there in a Formula One car will be even more challenging and interesting"

The Mexican also expects tyre maintenance to be crucial, saying "It's a high downforce track with a lot of slow corners, and management of the rear tyres will be crucial." Looking ahead results wise, he said that he is hoping to build on his positive race weekend in Spain. "After the positive race in Barcelona, I am focusing on building on my performance there."

“Driving on the limit through the narrow streets of Monaco is something special that I am really looking forward to. It’s one of my favourite tracks. I’ve driven there in GP2 twice and competing there in a Formula One car will be even more challenging and interesting. It’s a high down force track with a lot of slow corners, and management of the rear tyres will be crucial. After the positive race in Barcelona, I am focusing on building on my performance there.”

The teams head of engineering, Tom McCullough, added his insight ahead of next weekend's race. "The circuit in Monaco is a real challenge for the drivers and the team. The track improves throughout the weekend and it's important to give the drivers a set-up that gives them confidence as the barriers are very close."

He also revealed that Sauber will bring some aero tweaks to Monaco and that better performance on Saturday will be the main aim. "We have some further updated aero parts to add to the package we took to Barcelona," he said. "Coming off the back of our better race pace in Barcelona, our aim is to qualify stronger, as this is particularly important in Monaco where overtaking is so difficult."

Sauber currently sit eighth in the standings with five points, after another double non-score in Barcelona. Esteban Gutierrez came close and had by far his best weekend to date, and he is looking to kick off his tally in style at the next round.
