Pirelli's Allocation Pick's and Spanish GP Tweaks

Formula 1’s tyre supplier, Pirelli, has announced that it will make changes to its hard tyre compound in a bid to make it more durable.

The move comes after they also announced tyre allocations for the next three rounds of the season in Spain, Monaco and Canada.
After evaluating the tyre performances for the first four rounds of the 2013 championship, Pirelli decided to make tweaks to the orange-banded hard tyre in a bid to widen the “range of strategies”, with its structure being similar to the hard tyre ran in 2012.

Pirelli’s Motorsport Director Paul Hembery said on the announcement in a press release from the firm “After evaluating tyre performance over the balance of the first four races, we took the decision – in consultation with all of the teams – to change the hard compound from Spain onwards,”

The move is similar to the one faced in 2011 where they also changed the hard compound tyre, “As we did in Barcelona two years ago when we also introduced a new hard tyre for the rest of the season.”

He discussed the benefits to the tweaked compound, saying “This latest version of the hard compound is much closer to the 2012 tyre, with the aim of giving the teams more opportunity to run a wider range of strategies in combination with the other compounds, which remain unchanged.”

The tyre supplier also released the allocations for the next three races. Formula 1’s return to Europe for the Spanish Grand Prix will be run on the orange P Zero hard tyre and white medium compound, due to the high-energy demands of the Circuit de Catalunya.

Monaco hosts the sixth round of the 2013 season, with its tyre line-up being unchanged from the previous two years. The red-ribboned super-soft and yellow soft Pirelli tyres will be brought to the principality.

The F1 paddock then jet off to Canada for a race at the Montreal track. The compounds allocated mirror that of the similarly demanding Albert Park circuit that hosted the season opener in Australia, the super-soft and medium tyre being brought for that weekend.
