Hamilton Tops the Time sheets at Top Gear

One lap in the famously reasonable Suzuki Liana was not enough for 2008 world champion Lewis Hamilton.

The Brit returned to BBC's Top Gear, now in its 19th series, to try and top the time sheets. Separate from the usual celebrity board, Formula 1 drivers have graced the cushy Suzuki seats in an attempt to beat The Stig's lap time. Only Rubens Barrichello and Sebastian Vettel had, until now.

Hamilton's first lap was on a wet and, as he said, "oily" track. He managed to set a time of 1m44.7 back in 2007, just missing out on The Stig's time. Re-forwards to just before Hamilton found out his time, and Vettel graced the winners position on a 1m44.0, just ahead of former leader Rubens Barrichello.

However Lewis was not happy with the weather conditions and made an agreement to return to Dunsfold when the track was considerably dryer, and contained less oil. He made his return late last year where he completed his lap time. He remained clueless at to the time up until his recent returned to the Top Gear studio, for the episodes filming where he watched the lap and found out his time.

It was a very quick and strangely precise lap that was constantly on the limit, Lewis was obviously determined to beat Vettel at something! He listened intently, as Clarkson reveal a lap time of 1m42.9, the fastest lap on the F1 driver leader board.

Lewis looked visibly shocked to top the board by such a margin, 1.1 seconds, but was pleased with the achievement.

Top Gear really has returned with a bang, with some of the best VT's I have ever seen featured on the show. For example, the latest show focused on the stunning new Vauxhall Astra Hot Hatch, testing it against some equally mouth watering rivals. On the flip side, they also checked out the upgraded Kia C Apostrophe D, the car that the celebrities thrash around in during the "SIARPR" segment, as it is more colloquially known.

The first VT was a typical road test, with the same sarcastic and witty humour. However the second segment was one of the best Top Gear features I have ever seen, for its sure wit, scale and fantastic finished edit to list just a few.

Top Gear have previously tried car Football, but now they attempted car Rugby. At the famous Twickenham Stadium, James and Jeremy formed two separate teams. On each
side were two Kia Cee'd's and three Kia Sportage Off Roaders. The aim was simply to score the most points through tries and kicks. It was pure muddy chaos, but was brilliant to watch and was completely bonkers. Pure Top Gear.

Epic.
