Marussia let experienced racer Glock go, to save funds and bring in more money. The Banbury based squad hired fellow rookie Razia to replace the German driver.

He told motorsport-total “It is not ideal,” about the rookie pairing, “and we will sometimes have a hard time. I had been looking forward to being Timo's team-mate because he is very experienced but I'm sure we will have no problems as we wouldn't be in F1 if we weren't capable.”

There is no doubt that the rookie pairing will hinder and not help the relatively young team, Glock would have helped develop the car and push the team forward. However both Razia and Chilton have shown strong pace in feeder series.

He continued  "Neither of us is a number one or number two, because we are both rookies, the team will treat us the same and will help us.

“I'll be watching Luiz's data and he will look at mine. The team has three years of data and feedback, and although it would be nice to have an experienced team-mate, the team will be able to help us with that information.”

The 21-year-old finished fourth in last years GP2 season for the Marussia sponsored Carlin Team, after a few difficult years in the series.

Marussia are looking to score points and progress further this season, after making big leaps forward in 2012.
