Red Bull Racing Advisor Dr Helmut Marko has indicated that Mark Webber is expected to play the support role for team-mate Sebastian Vettel as he goes for his fourth title.
Despite strong wins in Monaco and Britain, Webber failed to keep up the consistency of his team mate and inevitably slipped to a distant sixth in the championship.
Marko told German newspaper Sport Bild "Mark knows what we expect of him,"
"For four years, Vettel and Webber have driven together in our team. Sebastian was runner-up once and champion three times.
"The statistic speaks for itself. There is no reason to think the balance of power will change."
Despite Red Bull insisting that both drivers have equal footing in the team, Marko is obviously indicating that should Vettel be in contention for the title again this season, Mark should take up the supporting role he knows so well.
Vettel took his third world title in 2012, whilst Webber finished the season sixth in the championship. The result was similar to those of the past, in the four seasons they have been team mates Vettel has dominated.
Webber signed a new one year extension to his Red Bull Racing contract after his victory at the British Grand Prix. The additional year could hint Webber's thoughts of retirement, something he talked about with GP International Magazine. "I haven't been there yet but it is going to be a very difficult moment, no question about it,"
"I suppose it's just about getting the timing right - not pulling the plug too early, knowing you have more to give of yourself, or going too long and not being quick enough or struggling to do the things you used to be able to do.
"That can become an issue as well."
