Sergio Perez accidentally let slip that Esteban Gutierrez will take his place at Sauber for 2013.
During an interview in Brazil, the McLaren bound driver revealed that fellow Mexican Gutierrez will partner Nico Hulkenberg at the Swiss team.
Gutierrez had a strong year in GP2, whilst also holding up the role of Sauber reserve driver. He tested for the team at the Abu Dhabi Young Driver Test and took over Perez's car for FP1 in India.
Perez said in the interview "The car will be strong because the rules don't change much, and the team have a good experienced driver in Nico and he will have a strong team-mate in Esteban,"
When pushed on the PR slip up, Perez smiled and said "We are waiting for the announcement."
This leaves talented Japanese racer Kamui Kobayashi without a drive for next season.
The popular driver, who finished on the podium at his home race in Japan, tweeted a link to a website to help him raise funds. Part of the tweet translated as "please lend power" before continuing "please support the winning seat, at full power, running low".
With Sauber's test and reserve driver being promoted, Robin Frijns will take the place of Gutierrez.
