New Jersey GP postponed

The New Jersey Grand Prix has been postponed for a year, due to ongoing construction delays.

The race was originally scheduled to take place on the 16th of June 2013, but due to delays and problems constructing the circuit the race looks set to debut in 2014.

The track will be situated on the Hudson river front, with millions of dollars being put into converting the city streets into a race circuit.

Foundation work was due to begin at the start of the Autumn season, but that time period has been and gone. As well as the foundation plan delays, they still need to get the engineering permits required before any work can go forward.

F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone said It is not going to happen next year,"

"If they came up with the contract with us and we were satisfied the question is could they carry out the work in six months? Winter in New York is not good. There's not a lot going on with New Jersey. They are still running around trying to get their finances sorted out. I think if suddenly they found the investors they would be okay. They are looking for investors."

Mayor of Weehawken Richard Turner also commented on the delay, saying "I think it makes more sense to me."

The United States was set to have 2 races in 2013, after a stint of not having a race at all. However it looks like we will have to wait another year to see the New Jersey GP debut.
