Davide Valsecchi has been crowned 2012 GP2 champion after finishing the Singapore feature race in 4th position.
His nearest title rival, Luiz Razia, needed to keep his title hopes alive by finishing ahead of the Italian but finished a place behind in 5th, unable to overtake on the twisty circuit.
The race ended in unfortunate circumstances after a large, strange crash for series returnee Luca Filippi on the start finish straight. This mean the safety car came out, neutralising what could have been a very interesting final few laps.
The race winner was new Marussia F1 Team reserve driver Max Chilton. The Brit led pretty much from start to finish after starting on the front row, and benefiting from Filippi's slow start from pole position.
An early safety car for first lap collisions saw an incredible restart for the Brit, but he had close competition from Gutierrez through out the race. Many drivers struggled with tyre wear and some pitted twice, unusual for a GP2 feature race.
So Valsecchi was crowned the GP2 champion with just 1 sprint race of the 2012 season remaining. Luiz Razia has had a very impressive season and will finish the year in 2nd in the standings.
