Jerome deserves to be on the grid full time in 2013 said the Lotus boss. D'Ambrosio raced for the Marussia team last season, and also replaced Romain Grosjean at Monza this year.

Despite a KERS problem during the race, D'Ambrosio managed to finish 13th after starting the race from 16th on the grid. He was replacing the banned Romain Grosjean, who received the penalty for causing the monumental first corner crash at Spa.

Grosjean will return to his seat for this weekends Singapore GP, and is expected to retain his seat for 2013. Kimi Raikkonen looks set to continue racing for the team, but Boullier believes his rivals would be foolish not to give the Belgian a chance.

Boullier told Autosport I think if any team had a doubt about him they will understand now that he is fast and can be very serious and professional and deserves his place in Formula 1,"

"He has been good. Any team principal should look at his pace. In the second half of the race he was clearly matching the pace of all the cars in front of him."

"He didn't put a foot wrong and he was professional and it was a very impressive weekend."

D'Ambrosio's last race previous to Monza was the 2011 Brazilian Grand Prix. He drove the Lotus E20 on the final day of testing at Mugello in May.
