The Mugello test, held in May this year, was the first mid-season test in quite a few years. However, the majority of the F1 teams voted to drop the event from the 2013 calendar.
The mid-season test was spread over 3 days, using the 3 unused days that were cut off the winter Jerez and Barcelona test sessions. The 3 events, 1 held at Jerez and 2 at Barcelona, will return to the full 4 day schedule.
The teams agreed plans to drop the test after they found that it gave them little useful information. They also found that they had considerable amounts of use able data and mileage from the 3 winter tests, so found it unnecessary.
The first 2013 race is scheduled for the 17th of March. This means that the first 4 day test at Jerez will most likely take place on February 5th, with the 8 days at Barcelona being split between the 19th-22nd of February and the 28th-3rd of March.
In a bid to cut costs, the teams decided on a majority vote that the expenditure for the event was too high and the sport would save money and be better off without it.
